Why does China need Tibet?
I have been wondering about this for quite some time, and I have asked many people. No one has given me a sufficient answer, though.
I understand some socio-economic reasons that China wants Tibet (i.e. mineral deposits, dumping ground for migrants and nuclear waste).
I have heard explanations for why China might think it needs Tibet (necessity of maintaining unity after centuries of internal struggle).
I have yet to hear any reason why China needs Tibet, though. Could someone please help me resolve this?
The two major rivers in China have their origin in Tibet. China has to protect this important resource.
