Problems with my knees...Permanent or Temporary?
I'm 45-years-old who, until about two years ago, was a fairly active person. I walked, hiked, danced and swam. My hubby and I went on a backpacking trip and somewhere during the hike (I don't remember a particular incident) I hurt my right knee. It was so bad that he had to bandage me up and give me a heavy-duty painkiller so I could hike back out wincing, with tears in my eyes.
I went to a specialist who told me that there was really nothing wrong with me and that I simply needed to strengthen my knees to avoid future injuries.
Since that time, I've been somewhat inactive. I've tried hiking and walking again in spurts, but my knees always begin to hurt after about 20 minutes or so. I recently started a Jazzercise class which I LOVE. Whenever they start doing the jumping exercises, I have to go low impact because my knees start to hurt. What can I do? Should I just stick it out? Will I ever be able to jump around again like I used to? Thoughts? Help!
I have terribly painful knees as well. The best thing for me to do is get very light ankles weights and lift for a few minutes a day. This strengthens the muscles around the knee cap, which will hold your knee in a better position. This will stop (or greatly diminish) the chances of another injury due to slipping or dislocation of the knee cap.
