Shod vs barefoot vs boots?
So I want to do some endurance and competitive trail events. And just trail riding in general. I am very much for keeping horses barefoot (minus horses w/ certain problems). But I am concerned about wear on the hooves. So I was thinking of putting hoof boots on. Also, some horses I have found are used to wearing shoes, I could transition them to hoof boots instead (granted they don't have issues)? Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!
I am for barefoot. Studies have shown horses hooves to be healthier without shoes. Old things die hard and people will say their hooves can't handle rough terrain. They can. Look at the wild horses in the western desert. My horses are barefoot and I can ride them on gravel roads. They build up callouses and get tough. I can see certain uses could require shoes. When horses are working in abusive conditions for their hooves. Overall more and more people are having their horse go barefoot.
